Women for Women Forums
Where the Public and Private Sectors Intersect

Although women are 51 percent of the population and 53 percent of voters, in 2006 women make up only 14 percent of the Senate and 15 percent of the House of Representatives—and are only eight governors. It is critical now for women in business to come together to support women in the public sector in order to increase the female voice where laws and public policy get made.  Please join EQUAL VOICE and Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP – the voice of women in business on Capitol Hill) January 24 for an exciting, nonpartisan Forum that marks the California launch of EQUAL VOICE to raise the visibility of women leaders, and that is part of WIPP’s WE DECIDE!” campaign to bring together the business community and political leaders to discuss important issues. We hope you will join us as we work to raise awareness of the value of women’s leadership and the importance of women’s voices to our businesses, as well as to the health, safety and prosperity of our nation.

Forum attendees will include women business owners and women executives from the local community. Attendees have the rare opportunity to meet women from the public sector and top corporate executives over cocktails. During the Forum, attendees hear four local women leaders—two from the public sector and two business women—as they discuss local and national issues critical to business growth, security, health, and families.

Women in business need to voice their issues and concerns to women in the public sector, because having representatives who understand their needs is critical to their business growth, their personal lives, and the health and safety of their families. No one can represent their needs better in elected office than other women who understand their concerns. Americans around the country who rarely see or hear women leaders will attend these events and gain increased familiarity and comfort with particular women leaders and with the concept of women in leadership positions.

The Forum panel consists of one leading local entrepreneur, one senior corporate  executive, and two women from the public sector: one a Republican, the other a Democrat. The panels is moderated by Dr. Betty Spence. The pre-event and post-event public relations efforts include inviting local and national media, interview opportunities, and press releases.

Forums will continue through 2007 and thereafter, with panels consisting of women leaders in the region of each event.

WIPP is a bi-partisan organization and EQUAL VOICE is nonpartisan. The Women for Women Forum events are nonpartisan, always include candidates or officeholders from each party, and serve as a forum for ideas, never for political purposes.

About WIPP: Women Impacting Public Policy is a national bipartisan group comprising over 550,000 members.  The non-profit organization is the public policy voice for 42 national Women in Business and Small Business groups and is The Voice for Women in Business in Our Nation’s Capital.  WIPP strengthens its members’ sphere of influence in the legislative process, creates economic opportunities for members and builds alliances with other small business organizations.  Visit www.wipp.org.

About Equal Voice: EQUAL VOICE is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization committed to challenging stereotypes about women leaders via nonpartisan forums that bring together women leaders from the public and private sectors, with the goal of increasing the female voice in leadership positions. A fundamental cause of the current low numbers of women leaders in public office and in corporate corridors is Americans’ ambivalence toward and resistance to women in powerful positions. EQUAL VOICE educates Americans about what women leaders bring and why this matters to the health, safety, and prosperity of our nation.
